The Coalition of Geo-Political Youth Associations of Nigeria, alongside various Civil Society organizations, has called on the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to launch a thorough inquiry into alleged misconduct involving certain staff members and union representatives within the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
These groups have leveled accusations of unprofessional behavior, intimidation, and discriminatory actions against the ministry’s Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Bala Saleh.
Addressing the press in Abuja, the coalition‘s spokesperson, Ambassador Olasunkanmi Kolawole, demanded that the union leaders issue a formal public apology to Mr. Saleh and his family within seven working days.
He further cautioned that if the apology is not forthcoming, the coalition would organize a youth-led demonstration at the ministry, pressing for appropriate disciplinary measures against the union officials involved.
Kolawole highlighted Saleh’s exemplary career as a civil servant, emphasizing his previous roles at the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and other government departments before his recent appointment to the petroleum ministry three months ago.
Despite his steadfast commitment to ethical conduct and professionalism, Saleh has faced unjust treatment, which has unfortunately fueled public calls for his removal, as evidenced by chants of “Bala must go” outside his office.
“Our coalition firmly condemns the unethical and inappropriate actions of certain union leaders toward Mr. Saleh. His dedication and integrity are beyond reproach, and he should not be subjected to such unfair hostility,” Kolawole affirmed.
