The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has firmly upheld the validity of the recent state congress held within the region.
This statement was issued in response to remarks attributed to the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, concerning the congress event.
During a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, Ologunagba dismissed reports that a congress took place in Cross River, labeling such claims as mere “hallucinations.” He emphasized that the National Working Committee (NWC) had officially postponed the congress.
He further cautioned that individuals involved in organizing the alleged congress would be subject to disciplinary action.
Contrasting this, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary for Cross River State, Mr. Mike Ojisi, issued a statement from Calabar on Wednesday affirming that the congress held on September 27 was legitimately authorized, closely supervised, and attended by all relevant party officials and structures throughout the state.
Ojisi highlighted that the congress was overseen by a designated party panel and monitored by key institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
“The congress was properly observed by all authorized bodies, including the INEC observer team led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, alongside security agencies like the police and civil defence,” Ojisi explained.
He also questioned the authenticity of the alleged NWC meeting that purportedly decided to halt the congress.
“A supposed social media conversation among five NWC members does not represent the full National Working Committee, nor can it make such a critical decision,” Ojisi asserted.
He challenged the national party leadership to provide details regarding the location, timing, and official agenda of the claimed meeting.
