Cross River Community Gets Solar-Powered Borehole

Empowering Cross River: New Solar-Powered Borehole Brings Clean Water to the Community

A wave of joy and gratitude swept through the Ochochi community in Okpoma, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, as renowned music artist and humanitarian, Ambassador Christopher Ogar, popularly known as Jay Moni, officially unveiled a solar-powered borehole he generously donated to supply clean and safe drinking water to the residents.

As the visionary behind Jaytech Group of Companies Ltd, Jay Moni initiated this transformative project after becoming aware of the community’s persistent challenges in accessing potable water. This borehole marks the first of its kind in Ochochi, promising a significant improvement in daily life.

The inauguration event attracted a diverse gathering, including community elders, women, youth groups, children, and distinguished guests such as Hon. Dr. Emaluji Michael Sunday (Ochochi 001), Mr. Emmanuel Okwo, manager of Jaytech Group, and Ebriku John Friday, Senior Special Assistant on Data Analytics to the State Governor, among others.

During the ceremony, Jay Moni shared that his motivation stemmed from a distressing video depicting locals forced to collect contaminated water from a remote and unsafe source.

“Witnessing people still battling to secure clean water in this modern age was deeply moving,” he remarked. “Though I may not possess abundant wealth, I believe it is our responsibility as citizens to uplift our communities rather than relying solely on government intervention.”

He encouraged other successful individuals from Yala to follow suit by investing in initiatives that enhance the welfare of their hometowns.

“We observe such acts of kindness in other regions of the country. It’s imperative that we return home and address the gaps ourselves,” he added. “At Jaytech Group, our mission is to foster positive change. With God’s grace, our outreach will expand, enabling us to further support governmental efforts.”

Jay Moni also took the opportunity to urge political leaders to focus on grassroots development and ensure the delivery of tangible benefits from democratic governance.

“My appeal to our leaders is to bring governance closer to the people. We often hear promises of improvement, yet conditions seem to deteriorate. While economic challenges are universal, we pray that our leaders remain dedicated to providing essential infrastructure that enhances lives,” he stated.

“To the people of Ochochi, I want to remind you that darkness is temporary. There is always hope ahead, and we are steadily moving toward that brighter future, Insha Allah.”

Expressing heartfelt thanks on behalf of the community, Comrade Dr. Emaluji praised Jay Moni for responding swiftly to their needs and transforming their everyday reality through this water project.

The event concluded with prayers from community elders, men, women, and residents, invoking blessings for Jay Moni’s protection and continued success in his endeavors.

It is noteworthy that earlier in April, the acclaimed Nigerian multi-talented street artist approved the installation of this solar-powered borehole after hearing firsthand accounts of the community’s hardships from Amb. Dr. Michael Sunday Emaluji (Ochochi 001). The project, valued at approximately N15 million, is set to commence once the community leaders finalize the site location.

Reflecting on the initiative, Jay Moni remarked, “Charity begins at home, and it is crucial we alleviate the difficulties faced by our people. After discussions with my elder brother and mentor, Amb. Dr. Emaluji, I greenlit the construction of this solar-powered borehole. Access to clean water has long been a challenge here, and this effort aims to ease that burden.”

He added, “These are challenging times, and many are enduring hardships. We have been doing our part to support the community and are thankful for the guidance we’ve received. Together, we can build a healthier society where everyone thrives.”

Mr. Emmanuel Okwo, Jay Moni’s manager, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to uplifting local communities and complementing governmental initiatives.

On behalf of the Ochochi people, Amb. Dr. Emaluji expressed profound appreciation for Jay Moni’s generosity and prompt action, assuring that the project will be executed to the highest standards.

Recently, Jay Moni was honored with the African Entertainment Humanitarian Award at the African Legendary Awards 2025 held in Abuja on April 5. He also received the Yala Achievers Award as Entertainer of the Year and earned ambassadorial recognition from the African Union for his impactful humanitarian work. His charitable efforts span Lagos, Ogun, and Cross River States, positively touching countless lives.
