Real Madrid’s young defender Dean Huijsen has been forced to withdraw from the Spanish national team after suffering a muscle injury, raising fresh concerns for both club and country ahead of crucial fixtures.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who had been in impressive form since joining Real Madrid earlier this year, reported discomfort upon joining Spain’s training camp this week. After medical evaluations, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that Huijsen had sustained a muscle injury and would not be available for Spain’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
A statement released by the RFEF on Wednesday noted that the player was withdrawn “for precautionary reasons” and would return to Madrid for further assessment by Real Madrid’s medical staff. Sources close to the team suggested that the issue may involve muscle fatigue in his lower leg, though no structural damage has been detected.
In his absence, Aymeric Laporte has been called up to reinforce the Spanish defense ahead of matches against Georgia and Bulgaria.
Huijsen’s injury comes at a critical time, as the defender has quickly become one of Real Madrid’s most dependable young talents. Since making his debut for Los Blancos, he has impressed manager Carlo Ancelotti with his composure, tactical awareness, and passing range from the back.
