In a recent development, the Delta State Police Command apprehended four individuals suspected of forcibly inducting a toddler into a cult group in Sapele, Delta State.
A distressing video circulating on social media captured the suspects blindfolding the young child and coercing him to consume an alcoholic beverage as part of the initiation ceremony. The toddler’s cries were audible throughout the disturbing footage.
On Monday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest, condemning the act as “heinous.” He revealed that the suspects are currently detained.
“These individuals have been taken into custody for the cruel treatment inflicted on this defenseless child,” Edafe stated. “The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has directed their immediate transfer to the police/” title=”IAWPA Honors Fallen Heroes: Delivers on Promise to Support Their Children with Visit to FCT … Command”>command headquarters.”
The police assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway and vowed to prosecute all parties involved to the fullest extent of the law.
This incident highlights the escalating concern over cult-related violence and activities in various regions of the country.
In a related case earlier this October, the Lagos State Police Command detained five suspected cult members following a violent confrontation between rival factions in the Onireke and Isashi neighborhoods of Badagry. SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, noted that the arrests were made during a strategic operation aimed at preventing further violence.
