Delta State Police Command officers have apprehended two individuals, Igwe Samson, 33, and Abalum Sunday, 39, on suspicion of drug trafficking.
Acting on reliable intelligence, the Crack Squad in Asaba, the state capital, raided a concealed location in Effurun’s Government Reserved Area (GRA) and successfully detained the suspects.
A thorough search of their Sienna vehicle uncovered a substantial cache of illegal substances, including 450 bottles of CSP codeine, 188 bottles of bargadine, 208 sachets of 100mg tramadol, 300 sachets of swinol, 100 sachets of 500mg tramadol, 50 sachets of rophynol, and a bag containing what is believed to be cannabis.
According to SP Edafe Bright, the police spokesperson, initial investigations indicate that the suspects have been involved in drug distribution for approximately two years. They reportedly procure these drugs from Onitsha and conduct nighttime travels to avoid detection by law enforcement.
The suspects remain in custody as the police continue efforts to identify and apprehend their suppliers and customers.
In a related development, the police successfully rescued a kidnapping victim unharmed in Ovian Aladja, Delta State.
The divisional police officer (DPO), CSP Friday Ekundayo, received an urgent call from a man who reported that at around 2:00 AM, armed assailants broke into his home, assaulted him, robbed the premises, and abducted his wife while they were asleep.
Responding promptly, CSP Ekundayo led his team in a pursuit of the kidnappers, tracking them to a forested area in Iyara community. Persistent efforts by the DPO and his officers compelled the kidnappers to abandon the victim and flee the scene.
