First Bank of Nigeria Limited has received commendations from both Lagos State and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for its active involvement in a mangrove restoration initiative connected to the recent E1 Lagos GP, Africa’s pioneering all-electric powerboat racing event.
Organized by Team Drogba in partnership with E1 and the local organizing committee, the project included a significant tree-planting activity held at Eco Park, Akodo-Ise, located in Lagos’s Ibeju Lekki district. This environmental effort is part of a larger commitment to safeguard the communities along the Lagoon through sustainable conservation practices.
During the event at Eco Park, Samuel Egube, deputy chief of staff and chairman of the E1 Lagos GP local organizing committee, emphasized First Bank’s crucial contribution. He remarked, “This project perfectly complements Lagos State’s objective to protect the Lagoon’s neighboring communities. We sincerely appreciate First Bank’s steadfast support.”
Highlighting the value of corporate engagement in ecological preservation, Rosemary Agbo, senior programme assistant to the UNDP national coordinator for Global Environment, Facilities, and Small Grants, stated, “It is inspiring to witness a leading institution like First Bank championing this cause. We anticipate more collaborations of this nature nationwide.”
In response, Olayinka Ijabiyi, acting group head of marketing and corporate communications at First Bank, reaffirmed the bank‘s commitment to environmental sustainability. “Sustainability remains a core pillar of our business strategy,” he said. “We are dedicated to strengthening the resilience of Lagos’s coastal ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. Participating in this tree-planting initiative as part of the E1 Lagos GP reflects our deep-rooted connection to societal well-being.”
The E1 Lagos GP stands out as Africa’s inaugural all-electric powerboat racing championship, featuring teams owned by influential personalities from the sports and entertainment sectors, highlighting the region’s drive toward innovation and ecological responsibility.
