During a recent visit to Muyi Line, the acting Chairman of Egor local government area, Hon. Osaro Eribo, was reportedly assaulted by unknown assailants while personally overseeing the Council’s traffic enforcement efforts along Uselu-Lagos Road.
Eribo recounted that the attack happened as he was addressing concerns about illegal parking and obstruction of the roadway by certain motorists.
He noted that the local government had previously issued warnings to transport operators, but these were ignored.
“Upon taking office, I noticed persistent traffic congestion caused by activities at Muyi Line every time I headed to work. I made several attempts to engage with the transport company’s management, but during our last meeting, the manager abruptly left, and shortly after, some thugs launched an attack on us,” he explained.
“I immediately contacted the Governor’s Chief of Staff, who promptly deployed additional security personnel from Government House, preventing the situation from escalating further,” Eribo added.
Following the incident, the thugs were detained, and the Council requested the transport company’s management to visit the Council and sign a formal agreement after numerous appeals from concerned citizens. “It is disappointing that these same individuals are now quick to spread misinformation on social media,” he remarked.
He also revealed that previous administrations had at times confiscated buses over similar traffic violations, highlighting the ongoing nature of the problem.
Eribo firmly rejected allegations that the enforcement operation was aimed at intimidating transport operators or singling out Muyi Line. “Our actions are solely focused on ensuring public safety. We cannot stand by while daily risks threaten lives. This is not a targeted campaign or an attempt to shame anyone,” he emphasized.
The Chairman further explained that the traffic enforcement is part of a comprehensive strategy to maintain safety, accessibility, and order on Egor’s main roads.
“Our goal is to create a driving environment in Egor that is free from stress and accidents. Every measure we implement prioritizes the welfare of residents and motorists alike,” he stated.
He called on the community to disregard misleading reports circulating online. “Effective governance sometimes demands difficult choices for the benefit of all. Our sole objective remains a cleaner, safer, and more organized Egor,” Eribo concluded.
