Two contenders vying for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, Kayode Ojo and Olajumoke Abimbola, have voiced strong confidence in securing their party’s nomination despite facing petitions lodged against them before the Ekiti State APC Governorship Primary Election Screening Committee.
Following their screening session with the committee in Abuja on Wednesday, Ojo expressed optimism, emphasizing his deep-rooted loyalty to the party and unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu. He asserted that these qualities position him favorably to emerge victorious in the APC primary scheduled for October 27, 2025.
Ojo acknowledged the petitions but dismissed them as inconsequential distractions, affirming his determination to win both the primary and the subsequent general election. He highlighted the significance of this election as a pivotal moment for Ekiti State and pledged to deliver a win for President Tinubu in the 2027 general polls.
Regarding the ekiti-governor/” title=”Ojo Pledges to Champion Council Autonomy and Secure Tinubu's Re-… as … Governor”>primary election format, Ojo stated his readiness to accept any method the party adopts. However, he confidently predicted that if a consensus approach is chosen, he would naturally be the preferred candidate.
“The screening process was generally positive. The committee recognizes my status as a senior party member and a steadfast supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Naturally, in any contest, some individuals attempt to exploit situations unfairly, which explains the petitions submitted against me. I will respond to these formally in due course, but there is no cause for concern,” Ojo remarked.
“These petitions are merely stirring up trouble where none exists. We remain united and optimistic that, by God’s grace, we will secure victory for Ekiti and for President Tinubu. Our commitment is to win this race, regardless of the primary election method chosen by the party. If consensus is the route, I am confident I will be the candidate endorsed,” he added.
In a similar vein, Olajumoke Abimbola maintained a positive outlook despite the petitions filed against her. She expressed unwavering belief in her ability to clinch the party’s ticket and ultimately the governorship seat.
Abimbola pledged to respect the party’s decisions on the primary election process and other related matters. However, she made it clear that she would only consider withdrawing her candidacy if explicitly directed by President Tinubu.
“The screening went smoothly, and there are no internal conflicts within the party. The APC is committed to presenting the strongest candidate, and I am confident that I am best suited to win the party’s nomination,” Abimbola stated.
“I will abide by whatever decision the party makes regarding the primary election. I do not intend to impose my personal views over the collective choice. As it stands, I believe I am the most qualified candidate and expect to be selected,” she continued.
“As a female aspirant, I bring unique competence to the race. Should the president decide that I am the party’s candidate, that decision will be final, and others will support it wholeheartedly. I have heard about a petition against me, but I have not seen its contents, so I cannot comment on it. Ultimately, if the president requests that I step down in favor of another candidate, I will comply willingly,” Abimbola concluded.
