Omokinwa Ademola, a 37-year-old former inmate, has been taken into custody by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly fatally assaulting his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, in Idanre, Ondo State.
Investigations revealed that the violent confrontation stemmed from a dispute over the repayment of a ₦100,000 loan Ademola had previously received from Jimoh.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olushola, detailed that the incident occurred on October 7, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., when Ademola became aggressive and physically attacked Jimoh multiple times until she lost consciousness.
Following the assault, the victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death.
The Divisional Police Officer overseeing the Idanre Division promptly led a team to the location, which culminated in the arrest of Ademola.
Joy Jimoh’s body has been taken to the morgue for a thorough post-mortem examination, while authorities have launched a formal investigation into the case.
In response to the tragedy, Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal condemned the act as “heinous and intolerable,” emphasizing the gravity of the offense.
He ordered that the matter be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) to ensure a comprehensive inquiry.
CP Lawal reaffirmed the police command’s dedication to delivering justice and issued a stern warning that domestic violence and acts of cruelty will not be tolerated within the state.
He also called on community members to uphold the law and encouraged them to report any suspicious behavior promptly to their nearest police station.
