Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), former Lagos State governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, is slated to present the 40th convocation lecture at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) on October 22, 2025.
This announcement was made public by the university‘s registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, in a statement released to LEADERSHIP in Ilorin on Thursday.
The 40th convocation festivities are scheduled to span from Friday, October 17 through Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Fashola’s lecture, themed ‘The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World,’ will commence at 9:00 a.m. in the University Auditorium.
Additionally, Mr. Alfanla revealed that President Bola Tinubu will officially inaugurate several newly completed university projects as part of the convocation events.
The convocation week will begin on Friday, October 17, 2025, with a special Juma’at prayer service at the University Central Mosque, starting at 1:00 p.m.
As secretary to the University Governing Council, the registrar also shared that an interdenominational church service is planned for Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Chapel of the Light on campus.
On Monday, October 20, 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), will hold a global press conference to discuss the convocation activities and highlight the university’s accomplishments over the past year.
Tuesday, October 21, 2025, will feature the convocation play titled “Joromi,” staged at the University Performing and Film Arts Theatre with two showings: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The convocation ceremony for students who completed four-year programs and diploma courses will take place immediately following the convocation lecture on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in the university auditorium.
On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the university will hold the convocation for graduates of five- and six-year programs, alongside postgraduate students.
Following this, Emeritus Professors will be formally invested. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will then commission various projects at their respective locations at 1:30 p.m., followed by staff merit awards and a convocation luncheon at 4:00 p.m.
The week-long celebrations will conclude with a special Juma’at service at the University Central Mosque on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., and a thanksgiving service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 26, 2025, starting at 9:00 a.m.
