On Wednesday, September 24, a tragic shooting unfolded at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office when a gunman opened fire from a nearby rooftop. The assailant fatally shot two detainees and injured another before taking his own life, according to official sources.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted an image on X displaying unused bullet casings recovered from the scene, one of which bore the inscription “ANTI-ICE,” suggesting a possible ideological motive behind the attack.
“Preliminary evidence points to a politically driven intent,” Patel stated as the investigation continues.
Just before 7 a.m. local time, an individual discharged multiple rounds at an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas, resulting in one death and several injuries before the shooter ended his own life. FBI, DHS, ATF, Dallas PD, and state officials are actively investigating.

The Department of Homeland Security reported that the shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, including targeting a van stationed at the secured entrance where the victims were struck. The injured detainee remains in critical condition.
Multiple media outlets have identified the shooter as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. His elder brother, Noah Jahn, told Reuters he was unaware of any political grievances his sibling might have held against ICE, saying, “I had no idea he was motivated by political reasons.” FBI agents were later observed entering a residence in McKinney, Texas, linked to Joshua Jahn’s records.
Authorities are classifying the incident as a deliberate act of targeted violence, according to Joseph Rothrock, special agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Dallas field office. The shooting commenced around 6:40 a.m. from a rooftop adjacent to the ICE facility, which primarily handles short-term detainee processing. No law enforcement personnel were harmed during the attack.
This violent episode comes on the heels of the recent fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and contributes to the escalating atmosphere of politically motivated violence across the United States. The Trump administration has accused, without presenting public proof, various liberal groups of inciting unrest. Recently, President Trump signed an executive order designating the anti-fascist movement, Antifa, as a domestic “terrorist organization.”
Notably, Wednesday’s shooting marks the third incident this year involving gunfire at a Department of Homeland Security facility in Texas.
