The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a firm admonition to those seeking to undermine the ongoing infrastructure transformation within the Territory, with particular emphasis on the ambitious ‘Light Up Abuja’ project.
This caution came in response to a recent malfunction of street lighting along Airport Road, coinciding with President Bola Tinubu’s return to the capital.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the Collector Road CN2-a vital corridor linking Yemi Osinbajo Way to Wole Soyinka Way-Wike remarked, “I anticipated resistance; I warned you there would be challenges, but we are fully prepared to confront them.”
He elaborated, “As long as we are alive, struggles are inevitable. Only the deceased face no opposition. The living must contend with obstacles, and when confronted, we will respond resolutely.”
The minister disclosed that he had already called in the contractors, CCECC, for a detailed briefing on the situation and their remedial measures.
Wike urged all stakeholders to maintain unwavering commitment, underscoring his administration’s steadfast dedication.
“These disruptions are mere distractions aimed at weakening our resolve. However, I assure you that my team and I remain resolute,” he affirmed.
“Our determination is unwavering. Among all our projects, the ‘Light Up Abuja’ initiative stands as a top priority,” he added.
He further explained that the new road forms a critical component of a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade slated for completion by 2026, marking both President Tinubu’s third year in office and the FCT’s 50th anniversary.
Wike emphasized the road’s strategic importance in complementing the recently unveiled Gishiri-Maitama road and interchange.
“Recall that earlier this year, the President commissioned that interchange. Without this connecting road, the interchange’s full potential cannot be realized,” he noted.
He commended the China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) for initiating work on a foundation of trust prior to the formal contract signing, reflecting their confidence in the current administration.
Highlighting the project’s immediate economic benefits, Wike forecasted a substantial increase in real estate values.
“Properties valued at 200 to 300 million Naira today could appreciate to 700 million or even 1 billion Naira within a month. This exemplifies effective governance and the true essence of economic revitalization,” he stated.
Expressing a sense of divine favor, Wike described himself as privileged to guide the FCT into its golden jubilee milestone. “Some of us have been fortunate-once golden governors, now golden ministers. One must wonder, are we not truly blessed?”
The Collector Road project is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion significantly in the Katampe and Gishiri districts, with completion targeted to align with President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
