Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has reiterated the Tinubu administration’s dedication to fostering partnerships with authentic private sector stakeholders committed to building a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria.

Akume expressed this commitment upon receiving an accolade from the African Business Ventures and Investment Group (ABVIG), honoring his outstanding contributions in facilitating collaboration between the government and private entities on climate change initiatives and infrastructure projects across Africa.

During the award ceremony held in Abuja, a statement issued by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information at the SGF’s office, highlighted that the recognition reflects the Federal Government’s unwavering efforts under President Tinubu’s visionary leadership to advance sustainable development, climate resilience, and green investments throughout the continent.

Represented by Okokon Okon Etoabasi, Deputy Director of Public Affairs and Bilateral Relations at the SGF’s office, Senator Akume emphasized that the government has established a supportive policy framework and institutional mechanisms-through the Ministry of Environment, the National Council on Climate Change, and other key agencies-to drive climate adaptation, mitigation, green economic growth, and sustainable infrastructure development.

He praised ABVIG for creating a vital forum for dialogue and collaboration via the Africa Infrastructure and Climate Change Summit, which effectively complements governmental efforts to attract private sector engagement, technological advancements, and investment in sustainable development projects.

Earlier in the event, Hon. Moses Owharo, Chairman and CEO of ABVIG, expressed gratitude to the SGF for his proactive involvement and technical assistance that contributed significantly to the successful staging of the Africa Infrastructure and Climate Change & Investment Summit 2025 (AICIS) in Abuja. He underscored the critical role of government participation in establishing an enabling environment for climate action.

Owharo also called for strengthened cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Environment, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), and other relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts against climate change.

He extended appreciation to the Nigerian Department of Maritime and Port Regulation Authority (NDMPRA), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and various private sector partners for their invaluable support in ensuring the success of AICIS 2025.

A notable moment of the summit was the presentation of awards to key contributors, including Engr. Nadungu Gagare, Permanent Secretary of the Political and Economic Affairs Office (PEAO), Okon Etoabasi representing the SGF, and several staff members of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, recognizing their efforts in making AICIS 2025 a landmark event.
