President Bola Tinubu has formally approved the appointment of Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUEZ) in Kaduna State. This announcement was made public through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Professor Bunkure, a renowned expert in science education, currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. His appointment marks a pivotal leadership transition at FUEZ, one of four former Federal Colleges of Education that were recently elevated to full university status between 2022 and 2023. According to statutory guidelines, the Vice Chancellor’s term is set for five years.
In a related development, President Tinubu has also confirmed several other significant appointments within the education sector. Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore has been designated as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano. Concurrently, Professor Abdullahi Tukur Kodage has been named Vice Chancellor of the same institution.
Engineer Nakore, a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, brings a wealth of experience from his previous tenure as Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State. Professor Kodage is a seasoned academic with extensive expertise in both teaching and university governance.
The Presidency highlighted that these strategic leadership appointments are integral to a comprehensive effort aimed at strengthening management and elevating the quality of leadership across Nigeria’s newly upgraded universities. This initiative is designed to build a resilient and dynamic educational system nationwide.
