Alex Iwobi, the dynamic midfielder for the Super Eagles, is poised to etch his legacy further into Premier League annals, according to Soccernet.ng.
The Fulham midfielder is on the cusp of becoming Nigeria’s most capped player in the Premier League if he takes the field against his former side, Arsenal, at Craven Cottage this Saturday.
Iwobi’s Premier League journey began under Arsène Wenger in October 2015, debuting in Arsenal’s commanding 3-0 victory over Swansea City. Since then, he has accumulated an impressive 298 appearances across three clubs.
With his upcoming appearance, Iwobi will surpass Shola Ameobi’s longstanding record of 298 Premier League matches, setting a new benchmark for Nigerian players in England’s top tier.
Born in Lagos and raised in London, Iwobi’s journey to this milestone is a testament to relentless dedication, perseverance, and continuous growth.

Iwobi’s footballing path began at Arsenal’s academy in 2004 when he was just eight years old. It took over a decade of development before he broke into the senior squad.
After four years with Arsenal’s first team, he transferred to Everton in 2019, shortly after playing a key role in Nigeria’s bronze medal finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Following four seasons with Everton, Fulham secured his services for a transfer fee exceeding €25 million.

Iwobi has flourished at Fulham, showcasing some of the finest performances of his career under the guidance of Marco Silva.

Throughout his career, Iwobi has made 149 appearances for Arsenal, 140 for Everton, and has so far played 85 matches for Fulham.
His contributions include 11 goals and 17 assists for Arsenal, 6 goals and 13 assists for Everton, and 15 goals alongside 10 assists for Fulham.
The 2024/25 season marked a personal best for Iwobi, as he netted nine goals and provided six assists over 38 league games.

In April, at 29 years old, Iwobi became the first Nigerian to surpass 30 goals and 30 assists in Premier League history, currently boasting 32 goals and 40 assists in total.
