Globacom once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to celebrating Nigerian heritage by playing a pivotal role in the 2025 Ofala Festival held in Onitsha. The event was highlighted by an impressive prize giveaway as part of the Ofala promotional campaign.
Having been the festival’s sponsor for 14 consecutive years, the telecommunications leader infused fresh excitement into the traditional festivities through this engaging promotion.
The festival took place at Ime Obi, Onitsha, featuring two key ceremonies: the Iru Ofala on Friday and the Azu Ofala on Saturday. These rituals are deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of the Onitsha people.
During the Iru Ofala, the Obi of Onitsha made his inaugural public appearance following a period of spiritual seclusion. This momentous occasion symbolized his readiness to lead his community into a prosperous new year. Adorned in regal traditional attire, the Obi received homage from chiefs, titled elders, and community members alike.
The event attracted distinguished dignitaries such as Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy; Hon Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha; ex-Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi; Obi Asika, Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture; among others.
The Obi expressed heartfelt appreciation for Globacom’s enduring support, remarking, “We are grateful for their faith in our culture, and I am confident that the mutual benefits we share through this festival will continue to flourish.”
The festival’s climax, the Azu Ofala, was a lively communal celebration and a day dedicated to gratitude. It was during this grand finale that Globacom elevated the festivities by awarding prizes to winners of its specially designed Ofala promotional campaign for the Onitsha community.
Prizes distributed included a brand-new Kia Picanto, two tricycles (locally known as Keke), power generators, and grinding machines, all aimed at empowering the recipients.
Mrs. Chidinma Esther Obi, a local entrepreneur from Onitsha’s 33 area, emerged as the grand prize winner, receiving the keys to the Kia Picanto from Chief Albert Ibekwe (Odu Osodi) and Globacom’s representative, Tochukwu Okechukwu.
Other lucky recipients included Ibeziakor Onyebuchi Anthony and Ejike Chiememma Gloria, each awarded a tricycle. Additionally, numerous participants received essential equipment such as power generating sets and grinding machines, bringing tangible benefits and joy to the conclusion of the 2025 Ofala Festival.
