Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has urged political appointees and senior officials to uphold integrity as the foundation of their public service, emphasizing that transparency and accountability are essential pillars of effective governance.
During a three-day workshop held in Kaduna, themed “Anti-Corruption, Financial Fraud, Transformational Leadership, and Ethical Values in the Workplace,” jointly hosted by ANHI Consultants International and the Kano State Government, the governor delivered this important message.
According to a statement from his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, Governor Yusuf called on attendees to ensure that every policy, decision, and action embodies honesty and openness. He highlighted that fostering a culture of integrity is key to securing a thriving future for coming generations.
Addressing the issue of corruption, the governor pointed out its severe impact on the most disadvantaged members of society. He remarked that the citizens of Kano are growing increasingly frustrated with unmet promises. “They expect tangible results and a government that serves the many, not just a privileged few. This was the mandate they gave us in 2023, and we must live up to their expectations,” he asserted.
Governor Yusuf also underscored that the effectiveness of government hinges not only on well-crafted policies but also on the ethical conduct and professionalism of those responsible for their execution. He encouraged officials to remain steadfast and courageous in pursuing what is right, even when faced with obstacles.
The retreat featured insightful presentations from experts such as Dr. Aminu I. Gusau, who praised the governor’s team as well-equipped to guide Kano toward a prosperous future. Additionally, Chief of Staff Dr. Sulaiman Sani and Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Umar Farooq lauded Yusuf’s leadership, highlighting that his administration has accomplished in two years what previous governments struggled to achieve over much longer periods.
