The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed strong support for the Federal Government’s ambitious Strategic Roadmap aimed at expanding the nation’s creative and tourism industries into a $100 billion powerhouse by 2030. This initiative is projected to generate over three million employment opportunities across the country.
During its fifth session held on Wednesday evening in Abuja, the Forum reviewed a detailed presentation delivered by the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, represented by Mr. Obi Asika, Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture. The presentation highlighted comprehensive strategies designed to elevate these sectors as pivotal contributors to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.
Transformative Projects and Financial Commitments
Central to the roadmap are several groundbreaking projects and financial mechanisms, including the launch of a $200 million Creative Economy Development Fund and the establishment of a $1 billion Creative and Tourism Infrastructure Corporation. Noteworthy infrastructure developments such as the Lagos Arena, Abuja Creative City, and the Renewed Hope Cultural Villages are set to become landmarks that will boost cultural tourism and creative enterprise nationwide.
Enhancing Intellectual Property and Global Competitiveness
The governors applauded the strategic focus on reinforcing intellectual property rights, which is critical for protecting creative works and encouraging innovation. Additionally, efforts to expand tourism infrastructure and services aim to position Nigeria’s creative industries more prominently on the global stage, attracting international investment and visitors.
State-Level Engagement and Collaborative Efforts
To ensure inclusive growth, the NGF committed to partnering with the federal government by establishing State Creative Economy Desks. These units will facilitate grassroots involvement, promote local festivals, and leverage platforms like the Naija Season to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and creative talents.
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the NGF chairman and Governor of Kwara State, who endorsed the communiqué, emphasized that the roadmap is a vital tool for economic diversification and youth empowerment, opening new avenues for sustainable development.
Tribute to a Distinguished Leader
The meeting also took a solemn moment to honor the late Pa Ahmed Momohsani Ododo, father of Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, offering heartfelt condolences to the family and acknowledging his legacy.
With Nigeria’s creative and tourism sectors poised for exponential growth, this strategic collaboration between state and federal governments marks a significant step toward transforming the country’s cultural economy into a global force by 2030.
