Herc Cut The Lights Embraces the Exhaustion Amidst SAMA Nominations Surge
In an open and heartfelt conversation on Showtime Chopps, South African producer and creative force Herc Cut The Lights shared a poignant moment that perfectly illustrates the complex feeling of being joyfully drained.
When prompted to recount an instance where happiness was intertwined with hardship, Herc immediately recalled, “Actually, it was just today,” accompanied by a weary chuckle. He painted a vivid picture of a relentless day in the studio, running on empty with no rest, swamped by a mountain of incomplete tracks and pressing deadlines. The overwhelming tiredness made surrender seem like the simplest path.
Yet, amid this fatigue, a moment of elation broke through. Upon checking his phone, Herc discovered he had secured not one, but two nominations at the prestigious South African Music Awards (SAMAs). This repeated acknowledgment reaffirmed his creative excellence. His latest project was once again shortlisted for Best Hip Hop Album, while his visual artistry earned a nomination for Best Music Video-one of the most fiercely contested categories nationwide.
“I was on the verge of giving up because the exhaustion was really hitting me hard,” Herc reflected. “Then I unlocked my phone and saw two SAMA nominations staring back at me. Best Hip Hop Album again, and Best Music Video for the entire country.”
Herc Cut The Lights’ journey highlights the bittersweet nature of the creative grind: long, sleepless nights often precede the most rewarding achievements. For him, the SAMAs represent more than just industry accolades-they serve as a powerful reminder that relentless dedication, even when pushed to the brink, can transform exhaustion into celebration.
