On Monday, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, addressed the 57 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), urging them to maintain the title=”I can’t believe we have lost Peter Rufai —Adepoju”>highest levels of professionalism in their legal careers.

During the oath-taking ceremony, Justice Kekere-Ekun emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the rule of law and avoiding any conduct that could tarnish their reputations as legal practitioners.

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) had announced the names of these 57 distinguished lawyers on June 24, approving their elevation to the prestigious SAN rank.

At the event held in the Supreme Court, Abuja, which also marked the opening of the new legal year, the CJN highlighted that this honor reflects years of unwavering dedication, steadfast commitment to justice, and significant contributions to the legal field.

“This accomplishment stands as a remarkable example of resilience, skill overcoming obstacles, and the limitless power of determination and professionalism,” Justice Kekere-Ekun remarked.

She reminded the new SANs that the selection process is stringent, underscoring the high standards expected from those who earn this title. The rank symbolizes not only legal expertise but also a profound dedication to ethical behavior and preserving the profession’s integrity.

Accordingly, she encouraged them to embody these values fully, carrying the SAN designation with honor, humility, and a deep sense of duty.

Furthermore, the CJN cautioned that the SAN title is a distinguished privilege rather than an inherent right.

“This privilege may be revoked if misused or abused,” she warned firmly.

Justice Kekere-Ekun reaffirmed the Judiciary’s unwavering commitment to its constitutional mandate of delivering justice impartially and fairly.

“We remain devoted to enhancing the judicial system’s efficiency, safeguarding the rule of law, and protecting the rights and liberties of every Nigerian,” she added.

“This ceremony is more than a mere passage of time; it is an opportunity to evaluate our progress, confront challenges, and renew our dedication to justice, equity, and service to the nation,” concluded the Chief Justice.
