An Ibom Air passenger traveling to Abuja was detained after allegedly stealing a significant amount of cash from the luggage of another traveler, who was a foreign national.
The suspect, who boarded the flight in Uyo, was apprehended by the airline’s crew members during the journey.
A video circulating on social media on Thursday captured the moment a flight attendant escorted the accused thief off the aircraft following the discovery of the theft, while fellow passengers reacted with amusement.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident unfolded as follows: “The man, a passenger on an Ibom Air flight bound for Abuja, reportedly stole money from another traveler’s hand luggage. The victim, a foreigner, had placed his bag in the overhead compartment. Upon arrival, he noticed his bag had been disturbed and discovered that a large sum of money was missing.”
“He immediately raised an alarm, drawing the attention of other passengers. A vigilant woman seated nearby observed the suspect fiddling with the bag and became suspicious. When confronted, the man denied any wrongdoing, but a prompt search revealed the stolen cash in his possession. Security personnel were called in to detain him.”
While the airline has not officially commented on the matter, an insider who wished to remain anonymous confirmed to LEADERSHIP that the theft took place on one of their Ibom Air flights.
