Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has lauded President Bola Tinubu alongside the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their dedicated efforts in fortifying the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) through pivotal legislative measures.
He singled out President Tinubu’s approval of the Bill as a clear testament to the administration’s commitment to advancing the modernization and professionalization of policing across Nigeria.
With the enactment of this updated legal and institutional framework, the IGP assured the public that the Force is poised to intensify its focus on enhancing training quality, cultivating elite officers, and reinforcing ongoing reforms aimed at delivering effective, transparent, and community-centered policing services nationwide.
In a related statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, highlighted that the recently enacted Police Institutes Establishment Bill and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, will significantly boost the professionalism and welfare of police-detain-officers-assaulting-motorist-camera-glasses/” title=”… … Takes Action: … Disbanded and Detained for Assaulting Motorist Wearing Camera…Glasses”>police personnel.
He described these groundbreaking laws as a monumental advancement toward securing sustainable funding, elevating professional standards, and improving the overall well-being of officers. “Collectively, these statutes lay a robust legal foundation for developing a modern, accountable, and well-resourced police service that can effectively address the security demands of a rapidly evolving society,” he remarked.
CSP Hundeyin elaborated that the Police Institutes Establishment Act consolidates and modernizes all police training and research institutions nationwide. It enhances their governance structures, broadens academic offerings, and aligns training programs with international benchmarks in law enforcement, leadership, investigative techniques, technology, and community engagement. This legislation enables the Force to better coordinate professional development and equip officers to navigate the complexities of contemporary policing.
Conversely, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Amendment) Act strengthens the Force’s financial and administrative systems by promoting transparency, accountability, and fiscal sustainability. It ensures steady and well-managed funding for critical areas such as operations, logistics, training, equipment, and personnel welfare-longstanding challenges that have hindered the Force’s full operational potential.
Furthermore, the Force PRO emphasized that these legislative reforms collectively address persistent deficiencies in training, infrastructure, and funding that have historically limited police effectiveness. They will revolutionize the institutional framework, enabling training academies and colleges to upgrade facilities, integrate cutting-edge technologies, and foster partnerships and research collaborations with esteemed local and international organizations.
Importantly, the reforms prioritize the welfare and motivation of officers by improving service conditions, expanding health and insurance benefits, and enhancing housing and career advancement opportunities. These measures are designed to usher in a new era marked by professionalism, integrity, and exemplary service delivery within the Nigeria Police Force.
