The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has reassigned the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Adewale, in response to escalating security challenges within the region.
Investigations reveal that CP Adewale faced significant pressure to deliver results after succeeding the proactive former FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igwe.
According to security insiders, the decision to relieve CP Adewale of his duties was largely influenced by the deteriorating security climate in Abuja, particularly following a high-profile armed robbery that resulted in the death of a well-known media personality.
One of the most notable incidents contributing to this decision was the tragic killing of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, widely recognized as Sommie, an ARISE News anchor, alongside a security officer named Barnabas Danlami.
The fatal attack took place during the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, at Sommie’s home in the Katampe area of Abuja.
Following this incident, an internal communication from the Force Headquarters in Abuja confirmed the appointment of Commissioner of Police Miller Gajere Dantawaye to lead the FCT Police Command.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioner of Police Wilson Aniefiok Akpan has been transferred to Kogi State as part of the ongoing personnel reshuffle.
The directive from the Inspector-General mandates the temporary reassignment of these senior officers to their new posts, pending formal ratification by the Police Service Commission (PSC), in accordance with legal protocols.
This order, documented under reference number TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.6/213, has been disseminated across all zonal and state commands, formations, and departments within the Nigeria Police Force.
