Rafa Mir, the former striker for Wolves and Nottingham Forest, has been formally charged with assault-on-date/” title=”Transgender woman accused of s3xually ass@ulting man by concealing male genit@lia from him during date night”>sexual assault and assault by penetration involving violence. The 28-year-old forward, currently on loan at LaLiga side Elche from Sevilla, along with fellow Spanish footballer Pablo Jara, were detained following allegations from two women they met earlier that night at a nightclub in Valencia. The women claim they were sexually assaulted at Mir’s residence on September 1.
After an extensive judicial investigation initiated by Mir’s arrest last September, a judge has determined there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial. Court officials announced: “The court-sentences-nigerian-18-years-human-trafficking/” title=”South African … Sentences Nigerian to 18 Years for Shocking Human Trafficking Crime”>presiding judge of Court Number Eight of the Civil and Preliminary Investigation Section of the Court of First Instance of Lliria has indicted Rafa M.V. and Pablo J.G. for separate sexual assault offenses. Rafa M.V. faces charges of assault by penetration with violence.”
The investigation revealed that Rafa M.V. allegedly assaulted one of the women on two occasions at his home in the Valencian town of Betera, specifically near the swimming pool and in a bathroom, during the early hours of September 1, 2024. Meanwhile, Pablo J.G. is accused of sexual assault without penetration and causing minor injuries to a second woman, also at the same location.
The court has set bail amounts to secure potential civil liabilities: Rafa M.V. must post €10,850, while Pablo J.G. is required to pay €4,338. Both defendants have been summoned to provide formal statements, with Rafa Mir’s lawyer requesting that his testimony be given via video conference.
Rafael Mir Vicente, who earned the 2019 European Championship title with Spain’s under-21 team and a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics, signed with Wolves in January 2018 on a four-and-a-half-year deal, taking the No. 9 jersey under former Valencia manager Nuno Espírito Santo. However, Mir struggled during his time at Wolves, making only two appearances without scoring, leading to criticism from fans. He spent loan periods at Las Palmas and Nottingham Forest, where he also failed to find the net, before transferring permanently to Sevilla in August 2021 on a six-year contract. Last July, he returned to his boyhood club Valencia on loan before moving to Elche.
The accusers were 21 and 25 years old at the time of the alleged incidents. Mir has consistently denied all accusations. Since his release on bail after two days in custody, he has faced hostile chants from opposing fans, including during Elche’s recent away game against Alaves, where supporters shouted “Rafa Mir, rapist” upon his substitution. The referee halted the match temporarily and alerted authorities in accordance with protocol.
Following his arrest, Mir issued a statement affirming his innocence and expressing trust in the judicial process: “I have full confidence in this country’s legal system and have cooperated fully to clarify the facts.” He also apologized to his teammates and club for his late-night partying, which resulted in a record fine from Elche.
