Renowned pro-democracy champion, Ambassador Emmanuel Nkweke, popularly known as Mr. Vote Count, has extended his congratulations to Professor Joash Amupitan on his recent appointment as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to LEADERSHIP, the Senate officially approved Amupitan’s nomination on Thursday following an extensive two-hour screening session.
Ambassador Nkweke, who also serves as the International Spokesperson for the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), hailed the appointment as a positive stride toward enhancing the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system.
“We applaud President Bola Tinubu for acknowledging Professor Amupitan’s expertise and commitment. We call on the National Assembly to expedite his confirmation process to ensure he can fulfill his responsibilities without hindrance,” stated Mr. Vote Count.
In addition, Ambassador Nkweke is rallying support from over a thousand prominent civil society organizations nationwide to back Professor Amupitan’s leadership at INEC. “We are confident that Professor Amupitan possesses the necessary experience and capabilities to steer INEC successfully. We pledge our full support as he embarks on this critical role,” he affirmed.
The process of appointing the INEC chairman is constitutionally mandated to include presidential nomination, vetting by the Department of State Services (DSS), and final approval by the Senate.
