On Thursday afternoon, the Senate officially approved Professor Joash Amupitan as the new head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The lawmakers confirmed Amupitan through a voice vote after a rigorous screening session, during which he responded to their inquiries for nearly two hours.
Following the recent departure of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, President Bola Tinubu put forward Amupitan’s name for the INEC chairmanship.
Accompanied by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo and other officials, Amupitan faced intense questioning from the Senate after submitting his credentials for review.
