In a major coordinated effort, INTERPOL partnered with law enforcement agencies throughout Africa to apprehend 1,209 individuals suspected of engaging in cybercrime activities. This extensive operation also led to the takedown of 11,432 harmful digital platforms used for illicit purposes, marking one of the continent’s most significant cybercrime crackdowns to date.
During this large-scale sting, authorities successfully recovered approximately $97.4 million linked to these cybercriminal networks, highlighting the substantial financial impact of their illegal operations.
This breakthrough underscores the growing commitment of African nations and international organizations to combat cyber threats and protect digital ecosystems from increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
