In the wake of the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East, Kaduna-based Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to consider negotiating with bandits to bring lasting peace to Nigeria.
Sheikh Gumi’s remarks came as a response to the ceasefire and prisoner swap deal brokered by former U.S. President Donald Trump between Israel and Hamas.
Expressing his views on his official Facebook page through a succinct message on Monday, Gumi suggested that the Nigerian government adopt a similar approach to the U.S. peace strategy, which involved engaging with Hamas-an organization previously labeled as “terrorists” by Western nations.
He stated, “The peace achieved between Israel and Hamas, whom they call terrorists, was facilitated by the USA. Who says peace cannot be made with terrorists? Negotiate with bandits and let peace prevail.”
