Our Story: How We Crossed Paths
Oyin shares:
When my father recently arrived in the UK, he accompanied me to a Sunday church service. Afterward, he noticed I wasn’t involved in any ministry and, concerned as any loving parent would be, he approached my pastor. The pastor then asked me, “Which ministry would you like to join?” Without hesitation, I chose the media team. It felt like a natural fit-I’ve always been passionate about social media, creativity, and storytelling. Little did I realize, this choice would lead me to the most wonderful chapter of my life. The following week, I was introduced to the media team, and the first person my pastor called over was Mayowa. With a warm smile, he said, “Mayowa, meet Sister Oyin. Oyin, this is Mayowa.” Our eyes met, and though it wasn’t a dramatic moment, I felt a quiet certainty inside me whisper, “This is the one.”
Weeks later, the media team organized a movie night, and I was tasked with coordinating the event and confirming attendees. When I reached out to Mayowa, it was a casual exchange, but fate had other plans. We ended up sitting side by side during the film, sparking our first meaningful conversations. The next month, I hosted a Friendsgiving dinner and naturally invited Mayowa. I recalled him mentioning how much he missed ikokore, a traditional dish his aunt used to prepare for him back home. Though unfamiliar with it, I was determined to surprise him. After finding a recipe and giving it my best shot, I served it at the dinner. His smile upon tasting it was priceless, and he joked, “I think I need to meet your dad.” From that moment, a beautiful bond began to grow. What started as a simple church introduction evolved into a love story grounded in friendship, laughter, faith, and a shared meal that forever connected our hearts. Our romance didn’t ignite with grand gestures but blossomed through service, shared moments, and the warmth of a home-cooked dish.
