Gift Orban netted his inaugural goal for Hellas Verona during their Serie A clash with Juventus on Saturday…
Italian match official Antonio Rapuano is reportedly facing a potential relegation from Serie A to Serie B following his contentious refereeing in the Hellas Verona versus Juventus encounter, according to Soccernet.ng.
Nigerian forward Gift Orban earned his first Serie A Man of the Match accolade after a standout performance against the Italian giants Juventus.
Orban successfully converted a penalty in the 44th minute, coming 25 minutes after Francisco Conceicao had put Juventus ahead. Beyond his goal, Orban was active defensively and consistently dangerous when involved in attacking plays.
Nevertheless, Orban was embroiled in a contentious moment that arguably warranted a straight red card during the first half.
In the final moments before halftime, Orban appeared to intentionally strike Federico Gatti with an elbow while contesting an aerial duel.

Typically, such violent conduct would result in an immediate red card, but referee Rapuano opted to issue only a yellow card. Additionally, the penalty awarded against Juventus was widely regarded as a questionable decision.
Post-match, Juventus head coach Igor Tudor openly criticized the referee’s decisions, expressing his frustration with Rapuano’s performance.
“The penalty awarded is disgraceful. How can a referee penalize a player who clearly doesn’t make contact with the ball?” Tudor remarked.
“Penalties like this shouldn’t exist. Only those unfamiliar with football would make such calls. It’s an embarrassing interpretation of the rules.”
Antonio Rapuano’s Future in Serie A Under Threat Following Controversial Calls
Football Italia reports that Rapuano may face demotion to Serie B, Italy’s second division, as a consequence of his disputed officiating during the match.

The final verdict on Rapuano’s status is expected soon, as top-tier European leagues maintain rigorous standards for their referees.
Meanwhile, Gift Orban remains unfazed by the controversy surrounding the referee. Instead, he is celebrating his milestone goal in Italy and aims to maintain his impressive form for Hellas Verona throughout the season.
