Armed assailants launched a violent assault on a police outpost in Zonkwa, located within the Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna State, resulting in the deaths of at least two officers on duty.
The incident, which took place on Friday evening, sent shockwaves through the community, as residents struggled to comprehend such a bold attack targeting law enforcement personnel and their facility.
An anonymous eyewitness revealed to reporters that the attackers arrived at the police station and began firing indiscriminately, aiming to intimidate bystanders and nearby inhabitants. Their primary objective appeared to be the release of certain detainees believed to be held at the station, reportedly linked to disturbances originating from Kachia town.
“They operated under the assumption that the suspects were confined at the Zonkwa Police Station, but it became clear after the raid that this was not the case,” a security insider confirmed.
Attempts to obtain comments from the Kaduna State Police Command, specifically from its Public Relations Officer, DSP Hassan Munsir, were unsuccessful at the time this report was compiled. Additionally, the names of the fallen officers have yet to be disclosed.
Neither the Kaduna State government nor the local government authorities had issued any official statements regarding the attack as of Friday evening.
