The Kano State Government has significantly enhanced its hypertension care services, now available in 208 Primary Health Care (PHC) centers throughout all 44 local government areas.
Nabilusi Kofar-Naisa, spokesperson for the Kano State Ministry of Health, announced that this expansion, driven by Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration, builds upon the achievements of the National Hypertension Control Initiative (NHCI), which was initially launched in 52 PHCs.
Supported by technical partners Resolve to Save Lives and Project HOPE, the program offers regular blood pressure monitoring, initiation of treatment, and ongoing patient follow-up. This comprehensive approach addresses hypertension, a major contributor to heart disease, stroke, and early mortality in the region.
With this scale-up, a larger segment of Kano’s population will benefit from early diagnosis, timely intervention, and continuous management of high blood pressure within their local communities. This strategy aims to prevent expensive medical complications, decrease hospital visits, and enhance overall well-being.
Health Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Yusuf commended the healthcare professionals committed to implementing the program and encouraged them to maintain their dedication to its success.
“This significant expansion demonstrates Kano’s commitment to fortifying its healthcare infrastructure and broadening access to vital medical services. It serves as an exemplary framework for other states striving to promote fair and sustainable health care,” Dr. Yusuf stated.
The Ministry highlighted that beyond saving lives, this initiative will contribute to cultivating a healthier, more productive population across Kano State.
