Kano Police Crack Down on Motorcycle Theft: Ten Suspects Apprehended, Seven Bikes Recovered

The Kano State Police Command has made significant strides in curbing motorcycle theft within the region by arresting ten individuals suspected of receiving stolen motorcycles and recovering seven stolen bikes. This development was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement released on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Motorcycle Theft in Kano

Following the apprehension of a notorious motorcycle thief, Dahiru Jibrin, on August 11, 2025, the Anti-Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) intensified investigations. These efforts culminated in the arrest of ten suspects believed to be involved in the illegal acquisition and distribution of stolen motorcycles. The recovered vehicles have since been returned to their lawful owners, reinforcing the police’s dedication to safeguarding citizens’ property.

Strengthening Community Safety Through Vigilance and Cooperation

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, SFIPMA, MNIM, MNIPS, MASIS, praised the investigative team for their exemplary professionalism and commitment. He emphasized the importance of public collaboration, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly. Such community engagement is vital in sustaining the momentum against criminal enterprises targeting motorcycles and other valuable assets.

Commitment to Enhanced Security Measures

The Kano State Police Command continues to prioritize the protection of lives and property by intensifying operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks. With motorcycle theft accounting for a significant portion of property crimes in the state, these proactive measures are crucial. Recent statistics indicate a 15% decline in reported motorcycle theft cases since the launch of the crackdown earlier this year, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated law enforcement efforts.
