Kebbi NASS Caucus Slams Ex-AGF Malami for Alleged ‘Breach of Public Peace

On Friday, members of the Kebbi State Caucus in the National Assembly demanded the arrest and legal prosecution of former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, SAN, accusing him of disturbing public peace within the state.

During a press conference in Abuja, Senator Adamu Aliero, representing Kebbi Central and speaking on behalf of the Caucus, addressed a petition dated September 10, 2025, submitted by Malami against Governor Nasir Idris. He expressed unwavering support for the governor’s relentless commitment to maintaining law and order in Kebbi State.

Senator Aliero, accompanied by fellow Senators and members of the House of Representatives from Kebbi, stated: “The Kebbi State APC National Assembly Caucus has been made aware of a petition by the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, dated September 10, 2025. In this petition, he accuses His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), Governor of Kebbi State, along with other political figures, of importing political thugs, foreign mercenaries, and engaging in secret arms deals within the state.”

“We categorically reject these claims as baseless, politically charged, and entirely fabricated. This is a clear attempt by Malami, who now leads a non-existent opposition faction in Kebbi, to destabilize the peace, development, and stability that our people currently enjoy under Governor Nasir Idris’s leadership.”

“Ironically, during Malami’s recent condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi, he reportedly brought along hired agitators from neighboring areas such as Sokoto, Koko, and Rara. These individuals, under his direction, attacked the APC State Secretariat with stones while chanting slogans against the governor.”

“This provoked violent confrontations with APC supporters-an unprecedented event in Kebbi’s political history, which has traditionally been marked by peace and mutual respect. This incident alone reveals who is truly attempting to disrupt the harmony of our state.”

“At no point has the Kebbi State Government or the APC been involved in covert operations or linked to terrorist organizations, contrary to the reckless accusations personally signed by the former Chief Law Officer of the Federation and Senior Advocate of Nigeria.”

“Kebbi remains one of Nigeria’s most tranquil states, thanks to strategic investments in security, strong partnerships with security agencies, and the patriotic spirit of our citizens. The governor has demonstrated exceptional leadership and effectiveness in the security sector, which has been instrumental in maintaining peace since his assumption of office.”

“We urge Nigerians to recognize Malami’s petition for what it truly is-a smear campaign filled with inflammatory language designed to instill fear and divert attention from his declining political influence. Spreading alarmist stories about foreign mercenaries and terrorism is not only irresponsible but dangerously reckless, especially coming from a former top legal official.”

“We call on security agencies to concentrate on authentic threats to national security and avoid being entangled in partisan disputes. We reaffirm our full support for all security personnel working diligently to safeguard our borders and communities. Such negative narratives only serve to undermine their efforts. We also encourage authorities to summon Malami to provide evidence supporting his claims.”

“As representatives elected by the people of Kebbi State, we stand firmly behind Governor Nasir Idris and the APC administration. Together, we are dedicated to promoting good governance, strengthening democratic values, and preserving the peace and dignity of our state.”

Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, representing Kebbi South, described the APC as a party committed to peace, stating: “It is important to note that Malami’s residence is less than 50 meters from the APC state headquarters. If our party were violent, clashes between him and our members would have been frequent, but that has never been the case until this recent incident.”

“The INEC national chairman has already cautioned that political campaigns have not officially begun. This appears to be a provocative tactic aimed at stirring unrest among our people. We challenge Malami to present any evidence he claims to have that our party is involved in arms importation. We categorically reject such dangerous accusations.”

“We do not condone any form of terrorism or violence against Nigeria. We stand firmly against such acts and will continue to combat them.”

Senator Maidoki also commended President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in combating insecurity, noting: “The President has made significant strides in the fight against banditry. In my constituency alone, over 100 villages were once abandoned due to insecurity.”

“Thanks to these efforts, all those villages have been resettled. While challenges remain, progress is undeniable, and we anticipate further improvements. We reject any association with banditry and demand that Malami substantiate his allegations with concrete proof.”
