The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully apprehended five individuals suspected of conspiring to facilitate banditry by supplying motorcycles to terrorist groups within the state.
On September 18, 2025, a coordinated operation involving police officers and local vigilantes, under the leadership of Divisional Police Officer Bello Lawal from Kamba Division, led to the arrest of suspects Saifullahi Suleiman, Halidu Adamu, Ibrahim Abubakar, and Sani Kabiru.
Further investigation revealed a fifth suspect, Mubarak Ladan, who was detained for attempting to bribe the police with N600,000 to secure the release of the arrested men.
According to CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the police public relations officer, three motorcycles seized during the operation were intended for delivery to the Lakurawa terrorist faction through an intermediary known as Alhaji from Kangiwa town.
“This arrest marks a pivotal achievement in our ongoing campaign against violent crime in Kebbi State. On the night of September 18th, at approximately 9:30 PM, a joint patrol team comprising police and vigilantes, acting on reliable intelligence, detained four suspects from Kamba town, Dandi LGA. These individuals were found in possession of three Honda motorcycles, colloquially referred to as ‘Boko Haram’ bikes, which were imported from Benin Republic at a total cost of Five Million Four Hundred Thousand Naira (#5,400,000),” the statement detailed.
During questioning, it emerged that the motorcycles were destined for the Lakurawa terrorist group, facilitated by an individual named Alhaji from Kangiwa town, who remains at large.
“While the investigation was ongoing, Mubarak Ladan, aged 28 and also from Kamba town, approached the Divisional Police Officer, SP Bello Mohd Lawal, offering a bribe of Six Hundred Thousand Naira (#600,000) in an attempt to obstruct justice and secure the suspects’ freedom. He was promptly arrested, and the bribe money was confiscated as evidence,” CSP Abubakar added.
The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M Sani, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi to intensify efforts to apprehend other suspects involved in this case who are still evading arrest.
CP Bello M Sani praised the professionalism and bravery demonstrated by the DPO of Kamba and the vigilante members, urging them to maintain their proactive policing approach to foster a secure environment conducive to economic growth.
He also encouraged other Divisional Police Officers across Kebbi State to follow the exemplary conduct of the Kamba DPO, reaffirming the Command’s dedication to dismantling criminal networks operating along the state’s borders.
Finally, the Commissioner appealed to the citizens of Kebbi State to continue collaborating with law enforcement and security agencies to ensure a peaceful and crime-free community.
