David Ali, the elected councillor for Gwantu Ward in Sanga Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has been released after enduring four tense days in the hands of kidnappers.
Ali was taken late Thursday night when a group of five armed assailants invaded his home in Gwantu town. Armed with advanced weaponry, the kidnappers abducted him in front of his frightened family shortly after midnight, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Anto Usman, Chairman of Sanga Local Government, confirmed Ali’s release, stating that the councillor was freed between 8 and 9 p.m. on Monday evening.
While assuring the public that security conditions remain “generally stable,” Usman admitted that sporadic attacks persist, often fueled by insiders collaborating with criminal elements.
“We are actively addressing the most vulnerable areas and regularly convene security meetings to enhance safety within our local government. This year alone, four individuals have been apprehended and are currently facing legal proceedings,” he explained.
“Though insecurity is a complex challenge inherent to society, we are confident it will be resolved in the near future,” Usman added.

Usman also commended Governor Uba Sani for fostering stronger cooperation among security agencies, highlighting that the governor’s efforts have been instrumental in restoring peace to volatile parts of Kaduna State.
A local resident from Gwantu, who wished to remain anonymous for safety reasons, revealed that Ali was found and released in a forested area near Ninzo community after his family reportedly paid a ransom of ₦4 million.
“His safe return is truly a blessing, and we thank God for preserving his life,” the resident remarked.
The councillor’s kidnapping had ignited widespread anger within the community, with many expressing frustration over the failure of security forces and local vigilantes to secure his release before the ransom was paid.
Following his liberation, supporters, constituents, and party members have taken to social media to express their relief, praising Ali as “a dedicated public servant” who bravely endured a traumatic experience.
