Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, has officially left the party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Mohammed, who previously served as the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, tendered his resignation through a letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Agunjin Ward in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
It is noteworthy that Mohammed, who stepped down as PDP State chairman just two weeks ago following the party’s pdp-prof-jerry-gana/” title=”Prof Jerry Gana Reveals: Jonathan Set to Contest 2027 Election on … Platform!”>state congress, had been a loyal member of the PDP since 2002.
In his resignation letter dated October 15, 2025, he stated: “I hereby formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP, effective Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
“Having been a member for 22 years without interruption, my decision to leave is based solely on personal reasons.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the party’s leadership, stakeholders, and members for their unwavering support, especially during my tenure as state chairman.”
During a phone interview, Mohammed expressed that after years of dedicated service, he felt it was time to explore new political avenues.
Responding to the news, PDP’s publicity secretary, Olusola Olusegun Adewara, acknowledged Mohammed’s resignation but remarked, “We anticipated this move considering the events leading up to our recent state congress.”
He reassured that Mohammed’s departure would not hinder the party’s prospects within Kwara State.
