Tragedy struck on the Jebba-Ilorin expressway in Kwara State on Monday when a truck accident resulted in one fatality.
According to reports, the mishap occurred around 12:13 pm when the truck, loaded with textile goods, experienced a sudden tyre blowout while in transit.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle following the tyre failure, which led to the crash.
Hassan Adekunle, spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and the casualty in an official statement.
Adekunle explained, “On Monday, 29th September 2025, at approximately 12:13 pm, the Kwara State Fire Service responded promptly to an emergency involving a truck transporting textile materials that suffered a tyre burst and subsequently lost control near Pasa village on the Lagos-Jebba expressway, Ilorin.”
“Our emergency teams quickly arrived at the location, secured the scene, and provided immediate assistance. Unfortunately, one individual died at the site, while another sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent care.”
“Initial findings suggest the tyre blowout was the primary cause of the driver losing control. A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact factors contributing to the accident.”
Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, reiterated the agency’s dedication to swift emergency interventions and advised drivers to regularly inspect their vehicle tyres, adhere to safe driving speeds, and maintain adequate distance between vehicles to prevent similar tragedies.
