Lafarge Africa Plc, a frontrunner in innovative and eco-friendly construction solutions and a prominent manufacturer of diverse cement products, has introduced EcoCrete, Nigeria’s pioneering low-carbon ready-mix concrete.
The launch event took place at Lafarge’s Ready-Mix (RMX) facility in Abuja on Wednesday. The company highlighted that EcoCrete achieves at least a 20% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional CEM I concrete, all while maintaining superior strength, durability, and overall performance.
During the unveiling, Lafarge Africa Plc’s Group Managing Director and CEO, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, revealed that the Abuja RMX plant has been fully transitioned to produce 100% EcoCrete. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the company’s commitment to sustainability, operational excellence, and enhanced customer experience.
“In the past year, we have launched innovative products such as Ecoplanet Elephant and Unicem cement, each representing progress in our pursuit of excellence and environmental stewardship,” he explained.
“Today, with the introduction of EcoCrete, our low-carbon ready-mix concrete, we are taking another decisive leap forward.”

In his keynote speech, Temitope Akinyemi, Special Adviser to the Honorable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on Climate Finance and Green Growth, praised Lafarge for spearheading sustainable advancements in the sector. He emphasized that EcoCrete’s launch is in harmony with Nigeria’s Green Growth Strategy, which integrates developmental priorities with environmental care. “This product launch perfectly aligns with Nigeria’s Green Growth Strategy, which balances our developmental goals with ecological responsibility. Lafarge Africa continues to exhibit foresight and leadership by introducing EcoCrete, a cutting-edge solution that combines strength, durability, and reliability with a reduced carbon footprint,” he remarked.
Xu Gang, Vice President for International Business at Huaxin, also spoke at the event, highlighting that EcoCrete embodies a fusion of global expertise and local ambition. He noted that the full conversion of the Abuja plant reflects Huaxin’s strong commitment to the Nigerian market and its sustainable future.
