Authorities in Lagos have taken into custody Ebuka Adindu following a deadly stabbing incident at Balogun Market on Lagos Island. The confrontation, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in the death of Sodiq Ibrahim, a fellow trader.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, addressed the situation in a press release issued from Ikeja. He clarified that the incident was not rooted in ethnic tensions, countering circulating rumors of tribal clashes within the market.

According to eyewitness accounts, the altercation stemmed from a financial disagreement between the two men. Hundeyin explained, “At approximately 11:00 a.m., a violent confrontation broke out involving several individuals at Balogun Market. During this melee, Ebuka Adindu, originally from Abia State, fatally stabbed Sodiq Ibrahim, who hailed from Kogi State.”
In the course of the fight, Adindu also inflicted a self-inflicted wound to his shoulder, rendering him unconscious. He is currently hospitalized under police custody and receiving medical treatment.
