Lagos State continues to dominate as Nigeria’s top state in revenue generation, as highlighted in the most recent Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Released on Monday via the NBS X platform, the report shows that all 36 states along with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) amassed a combined total of ₦3.6 trillion in 2024. This marks a remarkable 49.7% growth compared to the ₦2.43 trillion recorded in 2023.
Leading the pack, Lagos State reported an impressive IGR of ₦1.26 trillion (₦1,261,556,415,048.56), significantly outpacing other states. Trailing behind were Rivers State with ₦317.3 billion and the FCT with ₦282.36 billion in revenue.
Rounding out the top five revenue earners, Ogun and Enugu States generated ₦194.93 billion and ₦180.5 billion respectively, showcasing strong fiscal performance.
Conversely, the states with the lowest revenue figures in 2024 included Yobe, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa. Yobe recorded the smallest IGR at ₦11.08 billion, followed by Ebonyi with ₦13.17 billion, Kebbi at ₦16.97 billion, Taraba with ₦17.46 billion, and Adamawa at ₦20.29 billion.
