Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have congratulated Muslims nationwide on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, while expressing concern that Nigeria is edging dangerously close to authoritarian rule.
In a goodwill message released on Friday, the PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, extended warm felicitations to Muslims and urged them to emulate the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The statement, signed by the Forum’s Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, described the Prophet’s message of peace, tolerance, and service to humanity as timeless and vital to Nigeria’s quest for stability.
“Today, we honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), whose life and teachings continue to illuminate the path of compassion, justice, and unity for millions around the world. His message of peace, tolerance, and service to humanity resonates deeply across all faiths and cultures,” the governors noted.

However, the Forum raised alarm over what it described as growing alienation of citizens from governance under the present administration, warning of a gradual slide into dictatorship.
“Today, our country is at a crossroads as Nigerians are increasingly disconnected from the services they deserve. As we inch daily toward full-blown dictatorship, with its attendant abuse of power, citizens continue to live in abject poverty amid plenty. Leadership is urgently required to address insecurity, a compromised judicial system, and failed economic policies that have plunged Nigerians into hunger, unemployment, and despair,” the statement read in part.
The governors urged Muslims to let the Prophet’s teachings of compassion, justice, and unity guide their lives, stressing that humility, accountability, and truth must be central to rebuilding trust between the government and the people.
“Let this day remind us of the values we should uphold, public service with accountability, kindness without expectation, humility, and the pursuit of truth to restore the faith of citizens in our country. May your celebrations be filled with joy, prayer, and meaningful connection with loved ones,” the Forum concluded.
