Following a heavy 5-2 defeat to local rivals Atletico Madrid over the weekend, Real Madrid responded with authority, with Mbappe now boasting five goals in this season’s Champions League campaign.
Reflecting on the previous loss, Mbappe told Movistar Plus, “We can’t ignore what happened on Saturday. Even though this is a different competition, it’s important to remember our mistakes so we can improve and avoid repeating them.”
He added, “My focus is always on supporting the team and doing everything possible to secure victories and trophies. When a striker like me gets five clear chances, the expectation is to convert them all. That’s why Real Madrid brought me here, and I’m always hungry for more. While three goals were great, I believe I could have scored even more.”
Kairat started the match with some promising attacks, creating a few opportunities down the left flank, undeterred by their underdog status.
However, Real Madrid gradually took control, breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute. A defensive slip-up by Kairat allowed Real’s midfielder Franco Mastantuono to gain possession inside the penalty area, where he was brought down by 18-year-old goalkeeper Sherhan Kalmurza. Mbappe confidently converted the resulting penalty.
Despite multiple chances, Real went into halftime with just a 1-0 lead. Early in the second half, Mbappe extended the advantage in spectacular fashion. A precise long ball from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois found Mbappe, who outran the defenders and delicately chipped the advancing Kalmurza to make it 2-0.
Kairat appeared to have a chance to get back into the game in the 69th minute when Dani Ceballos was initially penalized for a foul inside the box on Valeriy Gromyko, but after a VAR review, the decision was overturned.
Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the area, following a brilliant run by substitute Rodrygo.
Rodrygo continued to impress by assisting Eduardo Camavinga’s headed goal in the 83rd minute, and Brahim Diaz wrapped up the scoring with a close-range finish during stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive 5-0 victory.
This dominant performance places Real Madrid in a strong position in the group standings, while Kairat, still searching for their first Champions League point, were left to reflect on costly defensive errors during a challenging evening.
