Fermin Aldeguer of Gresini Racing claimed his inaugural MotoGP victory after a dramatic first-lap crash involving newly crowned world champion Marc Marquez and pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi.

At the Indonesia Grand Prix, MotoGP rookie Fermin Aldeguer secured his maiden win, capitalizing on a collision between Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi that abruptly ended the race for both veterans. Aldeguer, riding for Gresini Racing, overtook KTM’s Pedro Acosta on lap 10 and maintained a commanding lead to the finish line on Sunday.
This triumph undoubtedly softened the blow of Aldeguer’s narrow second-place finish in Saturday’s sprint race, where he led most of the 13-lap contest before being overtaken by Bezzecchi. Acosta claimed the runner-up spot in the main race, while Aldeguer’s teammate Alex Marquez rounded out the podium.
By winning in Indonesia, Aldeguer became the first rookie to triumph in a MotoGP event since Jorge Martin’s breakthrough at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix. At just 20 years old, he also ranks as the second youngest rider ever to win at this level.
Marc Marquez suffers collarbone injury following crash
Despite starting from pole, Marco Bezzecchi had a challenging beginning, dropping to sixth place after the initial corners. In his aggressive attempt to regain the lead, Bezzecchi made contact with the rear of Marquez’s Ducati, sending both riders off the track and into the gravel at high speed. Marquez appeared to be in considerable pain after the incident.
The Spanish rider, fresh off securing his seventh MotoGP world title at last week’s Japanese Grand Prix, remained bent over on the trackside for several minutes before managing to stand and walk away while clutching his shoulder. This crash extended Marquez’s unfortunate record at the Mandalika International Circuit, where he has yet to finish a Grand Prix in four attempts.
There was no visible animosity between the two riders, as they exchanged a brief handshake before Marquez was escorted to the medical center. Post-race reports confirmed that Marquez sustained a collarbone injury from the collision. Ducati released a statement: “Marc Marquez has suffered a right collarbone injury following today’s crash at the Indonesian GP. He will travel to Madrid tonight for further medical evaluation and to determine the appropriate treatment.”
This injury affects the same shoulder that Marquez fractured during the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, an incident that sidelined him for an extended period and required multiple surgeries.
Ducati’s difficulties continued when two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia crashed a few laps later, losing control and sliding off his bike. The Italian rider, who has faced a tough season, expressed visible frustration by looking skyward and folding his hands in exasperation.
Earlier on Sunday, KTM Ajo’s Jose Antonio Rueda secured the 2025 Moto3 World Championship by winning the race in Indonesia.
