MTN Nigeria has revealed plans for a critical network maintenance operation set to temporarily affect telecommunications services in select areas of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano States on Saturday, October 25, 2025. This maintenance is slated to occur from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and is part of MTN’s ongoing commitment to boosting network efficiency and ensuring sustained service dependability across northern Nigeria.
In an official communication, MTN detailed that the maintenance will focus on a fibre cutover between AFCOT and Bawo Village, a vital segment within its regional fibre infrastructure. This initiative builds upon a similar upgrade carried out in August 2025 along the same fibre corridor. The company highlighted that this intervention aims to reinforce the fibre network’s durability, which has been compromised in certain sections due to environmental wear and construction activities.
The maintenance will impact 101 network sites spread over 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the three states. During the two-hour window, users in these locations may face temporary disruptions to MTN’s 2G, 3G, and 4G services, including interruptions to business connectivity solutions.
Regions Impacted
In Adamawa State, the LGAs affected include Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North. Borno State customers in Askira/Uba and Shani LGAs will also experience service interruptions, while in Kano State, the Nasarawa LGA is set to be impacted.
The fibre cutover process involves rerouting traffic from an aging or compromised fibre link to a newly installed segment, a key step in MTN’s broader effort to upgrade and stabilise its northern network pathways.
This replacement of the damaged fibre section between AFCOT and Bawo Village is intended to eliminate several weak joints that have degraded signal quality, thereby enhancing the overall optical transmission performance.
“Given the linear and exposed nature of the AFCOT-Bawo fibre route, service interruptions during the maintenance period are unavoidable,” MTN explained. “This upgrade is essential to remove damaged fibre spans and boost network stability.”

MTN Nigeria emphasised that this scheduled maintenance reflects its dedication to continuous network enhancement, particularly in areas where reliable connectivity is crucial for both personal and commercial users. “Although this maintenance may cause brief disruptions, it is a vital measure to enhance the robustness and performance of our network in the region,” the statement added.
MTN urged customers to be patient during the maintenance period and advised those in the impacted areas to anticipate temporary service outages and plan their communications accordingly.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank our customers for their understanding and cooperation,” MTN stated.
This fibre upgrade is part of MTN’s larger strategy to modernise and expand its network infrastructure nationwide. Over the past year, the company has made significant investments in fibre network enhancements, data centre expansions, and tower upgrades to meet Nigeria’s increasing demand for high-speed connectivity.
