The Renewed Hope Student Housing Initiative, launched under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, represents a strategic Public-Private Partnership aimed at elevating student living conditions and upgrading infrastructure within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector. This ambitious program targets the creation of 38,400 high-quality hostel accommodations spread across 24 sites, encompassing 12 universities, 6 polytechnics, and 6 colleges of education nationwide.
Each of the 24 student housing complexes will feature 1,600 bed spaces, including 400 private ensuite rooms furnished with study desks and chairs. Additional amenities will include multiple study lounges, communal areas, cafeterias, laundry facilities, convenience stores, salons, and hygienic public restrooms, all designed to foster a conducive learning environment.
Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL), collaborating closely with the Federal Government, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited, is spearheading the delivery of this transformative project. This partnership is a fulfillment of the President’s commitment to revolutionize student accommodation through the Renewed Hope Student Housing Programme under the PPP framework.
Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited has successfully completed the pilot project at the University of Calabar, as depicted below.
Currently, construction is underway at six strategic sites distributed evenly between Northern and Southern Nigeria. In the North, the project is progressing at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, and FCT College of Education, Zuba. Meanwhile, the South hosts developments at Sikiru Adetona College of Education Science and Technology Ogun, Akwa Ibom State University, and College of Education, Warri.

Progress update at Akwa Ibom State University

Construction status at College of Education, Warri
The hostels at College of Education, Warri and Akwa Ibom State University are approaching completion and are expected to be commissioned soon. Each facility, designed to meet international standards, will provide students with secure, affordable, and contemporary living quarters that promote academic success. This achievement represents a significant stride in tackling the chronic shortage of adequate student housing in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.

In addition to the near-completion sites, construction is actively progressing at four other institutions: Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Sikiru Adetona College of Education Science and Technology Ogun, FCT College of Education Zuba, and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. Each project is advancing steadily, bringing the vision of improved student housing closer to reality.
These developments exemplify the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by the President and underscore the dedication of Family Homes Funds Limited, in collaboration with TETFund and Africa Plus Partners, to guarantee accessible, quality accommodation for students nationwide.
Looking ahead, FHFL plans to initiate construction at eight additional institutions, further expanding the program’s reach across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. This expansion is a critical step toward fulfilling the goal of providing modern, secure hostels for students throughout the country.
With over 2.1 million students enrolled in public tertiary institutions and less than 15% benefiting from on-campus housing, the Renewed Hope Student Housing Programme stands as a pivotal, timely intervention by the government.
By establishing purpose-built, affordable, and secure hostels, the initiative aims to:
- Alleviate the challenges and dangers associated with substandard off-campus housing
- Enhance academic performance by providing conducive living environments
- Generate employment opportunities and stimulate local economies
- Encourage private sector investment in the education sector
Commenting on this significant progress, Mr. Abdul Mutallab Mukhtar, Managing Director of Family Homes Funds Limited, stated:
“The imminent commissioning of the hostels at Warri and Akwa Ibom marks a monumental achievement not only for FHFL but for Nigeria’s higher education system. By delivering modern, safe, and affordable accommodation, we are creating an environment where students can thrive academically while minimizing the stress and risks linked to inadequate housing.”
As the commissioning ceremonies at Warri and Akwa Ibom draw near and construction continues across the nation, the Renewed Hope Student Housing Programme is transforming campus life in Nigeria. Family Homes Funds remains steadfast in its mission to provide secure and affordable student housing across all six geopolitical zones, ensuring that more students can pursue their studies in supportive and nurturing environments.
