As Africa’s creative sector experiences rapid expansion and increasing international acclaim, key figures in the industry are set to convene in Lagos-renowned as the heart of Nollywood and Afrobeats-to strategize sustainable development and economic advancement. The Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive), the largest creative industry forum in West Africa, will return to Lagos on Friday, November 28, 2025. This year’s theme, “Powering Africa Through Creative Enterprise,” aims to unite entertainment professionals, policymakers, investors, and emerging creatives to explore new growth avenues.
Since its launch in 2013, NECLive has become a pivotal platform for transformative discussions and initiatives that influence Africa’s entertainment ecosystem. The conference has featured over 500 keynote speeches, workshops, masterclasses, demonstrations, and panel discussions, drawing more than 100,000 attendees and reaching an audience surpassing 100 million across 50 countries. It has also been instrumental in facilitating upwards of 1,000 business deals and collaborations, solidifying its reputation as a driver of industry progress.
The 2025 edition arrives at a crucial juncture for African creative industries. Nollywood has secured its status as the world’s second-largest film industry by production volume, while Afrobeats continues to captivate global audiences, with Nigerian artists headlining sold-out venues worldwide and earning prestigious accolades such as Grammys. The creative sector now contributes roughly 2.3% to Nigeria’s GDP, generating over $4.2 billion annually, with Nigerian films accounting for 56% of box office earnings in the first half of 2024 alone.
Despite these impressive milestones, the industry confronts several challenges that could impede its long-term viability. Deficiencies in infrastructure, restricted access to capital, weak enforcement of intellectual property rights, and fragmented distribution channels remain significant obstacles. Additionally, the sector faces mounting international competition and a talent exodus, as many creatives seek better opportunities in markets with more robust support systems.
Although the 2024 National Creative Economy Policy was introduced to provide a regulatory framework, its implementation has been slow, leaving the industry without the consistent legal protections and predictable environment necessary for growth. Furthermore, persistent issues such as escalating production expenses, piracy, and difficulties in monetizing content continue to affect film, music, and digital media sectors.
“Having spent over a decade fostering vital dialogues within Nigeria’s entertainment landscape, we are now witnessing an extraordinary era where our creative talents are achieving global acclaim and commercial success,” stated Ayeni Adekunle, Founder and Convener of NECLive. “Our focus must shift towards establishing the infrastructure, policies, and business models that will convert this momentum into enduring economic strength for Nigeria. The theme for this year’s NECLive underscores our dedication to showcasing how creative enterprises can be powerful engines for economic transformation across Africa.”
The conference will showcase an impressive roster of speakers and performers from across Africa and its diaspora, featuring sessions on policy advocacy, business growth strategies, networking, innovation showcases, and live performances.
Confirmed participants include industry leaders such as Steve Babaeko, Audu Maikori, Mike Dada, Colette Otusheso, Ojoma Ochai, Obi Asika, Moses Babatope, Funmi Iyanda, John Ugbe, and Chris Ihidero. Other notable contributors are Fisayo Fosudo, Moliehi Molekoa, Nora Awolowo, Shaibu Husseini, Folu Storms, Qudus Onikeku, and Dolapo Amusat.
NECLive 2025 is organized by Nigerian Entertainment Today and the Africa Creative Foundation, in partnership with ID Africa, BHM, and Huce Valeris, and supported by sponsors including MultiChoice, MTN Nigeria, First Bank, The Macallan, and X3M Ideas.
