Yesterday, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kebbi State Governor Mai Mala Buni, joined Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi in welcoming over 66,400 individuals from various political backgrounds who officially switched allegiance to the APC.

These new members represent all 27 local government areas within Jigawa State.

The majority of the defectors originated from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC). They were formally received during a grand assembly held at Dutse Stadium.

This mass defection event was organized in response to a significant shift of political loyalty from opposition parties within the state, as the 2027 general elections approach.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Governor of Yobe State emphasized that the current administration remains committed to fostering peace and progress throughout Nigeria, aligning with the core principles upon which the APC was founded.

He further reassured the people of Jigawa that the federal government is steadfast in its efforts to implement initiatives, policies, and projects aimed at enhancing the social and economic development of both the state and the nation.

Professor Nentawe expressed gratitude to Governor Namadi for his dedication to advancing the party’s ideals, which he credited as a key factor in attracting the influx of new members.

This acknowledgment came after Governor Namadi formally handed over a comprehensive list detailing the new members and their respective political wards to the APC chairman.

Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, Special Adviser on Political Affairs to President Tinubu, highlighted that the impressive turnout and volume of defectors reflect the effective, inclusive leadership style of Governor Namadi.

Hon. Aminu Sani Gumel, chairman of the APC in Jigawa State, assured the newcomers that they would be accorded the same opportunities and respect as all committed party members.

Representing the defectors, Hon. Galambi, a former NNPP member and representative of the Gwaram federal constituency, shared that their decision to join the APC was inspired by Governor Namadi’s inclusive and visionary leadership, which is actively transforming Jigawa.

“Our move to the APC is driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of Jigawa under Governor Namadi’s pragmatic 12-point agenda and genuine dedication. We believe the state is on a promising path, and we are eager to be part of this progress,” Hon. Galambi affirmed.
