The government of Niger State is preparing to implement a sustainable development framework modeled after the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone in the Republic of Benin, targeting the Special Agro-Processing Zone located at Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna.

This move comes in the wake of Governor Umaru Bago’s recent visit to Benin, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, boosting local industrial capacity, and fostering sustainable economic advancement.

During his inspection of the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone, Governor Bago conducted a comprehensive evaluation to gauge the zone’s achievements and identify best practices that could be adapted for the Special Agro-Processing Zone in Minna.

Impressed by the industrial standards and operational excellence at Glo-Djigbé, the governor reiterated his dedication to collaborating with Beninese authorities to stimulate economic growth and development within Niger State.
He highlighted the strategic partnership between Niger State and the Republic of Benin as a catalyst for progress, emphasizing that his administration stands to gain valuable insights from one of West Africa’s leading industrial centers, known for its proficiency in textiles, agro-processing, and export-driven manufacturing.

Minister of State for Agriculture, Abdullahi Aliyu Sabi, underscored the potential benefits of this cross-border cooperation. He pointed out that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government is actively pursuing such alliances in the agricultural sector as part of its overarching goal to build a $1 trillion economy.

Letondji Beheton, Director-General of the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone, expressed appreciation for Niger State’s initiative to forge a partnership with Benin. He noted that this collaboration is poised to enhance the economic landscapes of both nations and revealed ongoing efforts to produce substantial quantities of premium seeds aimed at improving farmers’ productivity.

According to LEADERSHIP Weekend, Niger State shares a boundary with the Republic of Benin via Babbanna in Borgu Local Government Area.

Previously, the state government formalized its commitment to agro-industrial cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen collaboration in this sector.
